Jaspur x Princess Bride
Myst is a tall elegant mare with huge black eyes that passes on her beauty and amazing movement to her foals. She has produced wonderful foals that compete in endurance and are amazing family horses.
In 2003 we bred Molly to Jaspur and she presented us with a beautiful chestnut colt we named Mitch. He was a beautiful upright boy, the best movement and body of both his parents. When he was about 2 months old something happened and we noticed he was having difficulty getting up. We had the vet out, we did bloodwork, X-rays, chiropractic, we had him on vitamins, pain control, all the things. He wasn’t improving, and he was growing. With the meds and testing I would sing the Fleetwood Mac song Mystified.
Nothing we did helped so we took him to Alamo Pintado for more advanced imaging. X-rays, they didn’t see anything that would explain his inability to stand. Next was a myelogram but they couldn’t do that for several hours so we left him and mama at the clinic for the night. The next day I was at work and Cathy called me and told me she had decided to put Mitch down. She said the myelogram didn’t show anything either. Still no explanation for his inability to get up, but at the clinic they gave him increased doses of steroids and pain medication and he jumped up. So pain was definitely involved and the thought that he was in pain that whole time was heartbreaking.
When I got home that evening I told Cathy we were breeding Molly back to Jaspur she was going to have a bay filly, and we were naming her Mystified. After the Fleetwood Mac song. I would sing to him cause he was such a pretty baby. That is how Myst got her name.
